Mechatronics and Control

The study program of master academic studies in Mechatronics and Control belongs to the domain of engineering sciences and technology, and falls under the scientific and professional field of Mechanical Engineering. The study program lasts for 1 year, i.e. 2 semesters, and is equivalent to 60 ECTS credits.

The study program of master academic studies in Mechatronics and Control comprises core and elective courses, whose completion provides the necessary academic knowledge and skills for acquiring the professional degree of Master in Mechanical Engineering – Mechatronics and Control. This degree corresponds to the degree of Master of Science (M.Sc.), awarded by foreign higher education institutions.

The study program of master academic studies in Mechatronics and Control, which admits the maximum of 24 students, contains 3 core courses, compulsory professional practice M, 4 elective courses (selected by a student from the available elective blocks) and the master’s thesis.

The admission requirements for the study program of master academic studies in Mechatronics and Control include completed four-year undergraduate studies within the domain of engineering sciences and technology or the domain of natural sciences and mathematics, which are equivalent to at least 240 ECTS credits.

The total involvement of students in completing the master academic studies in Mechatronics and Control consists of active teaching (lectures, tutorials, other forms of active teaching), independent work, mid-term tests, exams and professional practice.

Mechatronics is an interdisciplinary engineering field whose name comes from the words MECHA, which relates to engineering components, and TRONICS, which symbolizes intelligent control. It is expected from a mechatronics engineer to be an expert who possesses sufficient knowledge of fundamental engineering disciplines, electronics, automatic control, programming and application of modern information technologies, robotics, automation and modern mechanization.

The basic purpose of the study program of master academic studies in Mechatronics and Control is the acquisition of interdisciplinary knowledge within the areas of mechanical engineering, electronics, control and information technology, with the aim of students becoming competent in carrying out operation, production, and development tasks which exceed the knowledge of narrowly specialized fields of engineering.

The basic aim of the study program of master academic studies in Mechatronics and Control is the acquisition of knowledge relevant for industry demands concerning jobs where the simultaneous application of mechanical engineering, electronics, information technology and robotics is required. This knowledge integrates the application of computers and modern programming packages, sensors and actuators, analogue and digital control systems, with their implementation into mechanical systems.

Special aims of this study program are:

  • competence in calculation and application of optical, electronic, hydropneumatic, and mechanical components in carrying out appropriate functions in mechatronic devices;
  • competence in identification and adjustment of influential parameters of complex mechatronic systems with the aim of their optimization.

By completing the core curriculum of the study program of master academic studies in Mechatronics and Control, students acquire fundamental knowledge in the following fields: robotics, micromechatronics and control systems in mechatronics.

By completing the elective curriculum of the study program of master academic studies in Mechatronics and Control, students acquire basic and professionally applicative knowledge and skills in the following fields: biomechatronics, mechatronic systems in traffic and transport, digital image processing in mechatronics, computer input-output devices and protocols, mechanisms in mechatronics, compliant mechanisms, nanotribology, advanced control systems.
