About the Department
The Department was established in the academic year 1966/67 as the Department of Thermal Engineering. Following several organizational and structural changes, since 2006 it has operated under the name Department of Thermal Engineering, Thermal Power Engineering and Process Engineering.
The Department carries out teaching and research activities in the fields of thermal engineering, thermal power engineering, process engineering, environmental protection and energy management.
Teaching and Research Areas
The main areas covered by the Department include:

- Heat and mass transfer in single-phase and multiphase flows
- Heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems
- Refrigeration systems
- Thermal power plants and steam boilers

Teaching Activities
Members of the Department participate in teaching at all levels of study in Mechanical Engineering. The Department provides education in energy and process engineering and contributes to the Energy Management field within Engineering Management.
Teaching combines fundamental engineering principles with the analysis, design and operation of thermal and process systems, energy conversion equipment and systems for efficient and sustainable use of energy.
Research Activities
Research activities include energy conversion processes, heat and mass transfer, thermal power systems, heating and cooling technologies, process equipment, renewable energy sources, energy efficiency and environmental protection.
The Department also conducts research related to rational energy consumption, development and application of alternative energy sources, and improvement of the energy and environmental performance of engineering systems.
